Aphasia is a loss of the ability to produce and/or comprehend language, due to injury to the brain. Brain damage can be caused by traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, or other head injury. Interactive computer software has been developed to simulate the use of the brain throughout repetitive memory challenges, eye/hand coordination, cognitive goals, and speech therapies. The use of this software frequently helps to rebuild memory and speech function. The Heart Of A Marine Foundation is initiating a comprehensive project to assist in the rehabilitation of service members and veterans with TBI and stroke. We are providing computers and Aphasia Software to military personnel in polytrauma units in Veteran Administration Hospitals. Laptops will also be provided to enable those in need to have 24/7 rehabilitation capabilities. The outset of this project will focus on two specific locations: Minneapolis VA Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Hines VA Hospital, Hines, Illinois, with future growth in North Chicago, Illinois. Our long term goal is to place Aphasia software and computers in every veteran administration hospital nationwide. Our dream, in Phil’s name, is to bring the quality of life back to all who have been affected by TBI or stroke. Your assistance, in any way, will bring this dream closer to fruition. Your contribution and/or donation will go miles to bringing our service members and veterans back to their loved ones and the life they deserve. As this project develops, we will update our web site with pictures of computer/software deliveries to hospitals, and recount with success stories. Stay tuned! We have only begun! Sponsorships are available to the Aphasia project. Please contact the Heart of a Marine Foundation at 847.452.5519 or visit our “Sponsorship Opportunities” page for information and details. |
